When the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, purchased eighty pieces of art from Milanese Count Guseppe Panza di Biumo in 1984, the works became the core of MOCA's permanent collection. The Panza collection featured works by twenty internationally significant artists including Mark Rothko, Franz Kline, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, Jean Fautrier, Antonio Tapies, Claes Oldenburg and George Segal.

Panza: The Legacy of a Collector features essays by Count Panza, Cornelia H. Butler, Caroline A.
