Sweet William is a wonderful novel but a harsh one as the story is told by the race horse himself. "With these memoirs of Old Horse, that Old Virtuoso and great master craftsman John Hawkes rises to his full powers" Sweet William is fresh and lively, compelling reading experience. Hawkes, through the thoughts of this horse from being a foal to old age....takes the reader on a journey but reader beware....be ready to cry and cry and cry but there are parts that fill you with joy and hope.
Recently the Kentucky Derby winner, Barbaro, this past weekend , broke three bones in his ankle and above. For those who know about this great horse or those who want to send Get Well Wishes....as Barbaro is in the long battle for his life....given and 50% chance after a grueling seven hours of surgery. Barbaro has heart....he was my pick before the Kentucky Derby and the more I learn about him the more I am cheering for this horse. If you have time send his trainer and owners and kind word and support.

After a career-ending injury in the Preakness Stakes on Saturday and several hours of surgery at the New Bolton Center in Pennsylvania on Sunday, Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro now begins a long and difficult recovery period. You might be one of the hundreds of thousands, or even million of fans in our equestrian community that wish to somehow send a word of support.
You can send your message to Barbaro, Trainer Michael Matz, a three-time Olympic equestrian who won Silver at the Atlanta Games in 1996, and the owners, Roy and Gretchen Jackson, by emailing matzbarbaro@usef.org. The USEF will compile these messages into a special notebook and forward it to Barbaro and his connections.
